News 1History of Robinson Metalwork Ltd

We are immensely proud of our history dating back to 1960 when the company was started by our founder Mr Peter Frank Robinson.

On November 9, 1960, Peter Robinson set up in the sheet metalwork and fabrication business on the ground floor of an old building at 464 Dunstable Road, Luton.  He had no machinery that day and no staff whatever.  But behind him was experience of the complete metalworking industry in Luton, gained through the whole of his working life.  Mr Robinson's wife (Betty) did the clerical Newswork, and he himself got his work out on time by working seven days a week.

In the early days, he had only 400 square feet of production space at his disposal - not much for a sheet metal business.  But by a policy of good workmanship, by making every endeavor to keep up with promised delivery dates, and by going out of his way to please the customer, Mr Robinson was able to begin his policy of expansion.  Within a month of starting, he had taken on his first employee, and not long after that he had more Newsthan doubled the factory space at his disposal.

After only four years of trading Robinson Metalwork moved to a new factory to the rear of the existing premises in Caleb Close, Dunstable Road and it remained there until 2004.

Peter Robinson passed away in November 1999 and the company continued under the guidance of his younger son Simon Robinson, who had been in the business since 1984.  Peter's brother, Paul, still remains active to this day in the company having passed 80 years old and over 45 years continuous service.

In 2004 the company moved to its current location in Sundon Park, Luton again increasing its size and capacity.

Right from the start, Peter Robinson based his business on an idea - that of good workmanship and prompt delivery, attained by personal supervision.  In spite of the vast changes in today's modern business environment, these core values remain fundamental to our business beliefs as they did 50 years ago.
